The Technical Services Department provides Interlibrary Loan services, training to member library staff, cataloging services, and more.
Interlibrary Loan -- Interlibrary loan is a service whereby a patron of one library can borrow books, DVDs, music, etc. that are owned by another library. The patron makes a request with their home library (pickup library), which then identifies which libraries own the item, places the request, receives the item, makes it available to the patron, as well as arranges for its return. If none of our 65 member libraries own the item, a search is done through DueNorth, and OCLC to fill the requests. The Empire Library Delivery and NCLS Delivery then get the item from library A (owning library) to library B (patron’s pickup library).
Staff training – Technical Services staff provides one-on-one member library new director and new staff training for WorkFlows training which encompasses Circulation, Patron Registration, Interlibrary Loan, Barcoding, and Reports training. If training is needed, please contact the Technical Services department by clicking on the training link below.
Cataloging -- Descriptive cataloging involves applying a standardized set of rules, currently RDA (Resource Description and Access), to record the title, author, and publication data for a work. RDA also entails describing the physical extent of the work, adding bibliographic notes as necessary, and adding access points for persons or entities associated with the creation of the work.
